Civil society group calls for demonstrations in Maroua (Far North region) on November 29; avoid demonstrations as a precaution

The Collectif Citoyen contre les Souffrances du Peuple (Citizen Collective against the Suffering of the People) civil society group has called for demonstrations in Maroua (Far North region) on Sunday, November 29. Participants plan to draw attention to the perceived sufferings of the local community. The exact location and timings of the gatherings have not been confirmed. Authorities have banned the event due to concerns over security and social stability; however, organizers have said that the demonstrations will go ahead regardless.

As the demonstrations have been prohibited, a heightened security presence is expected in the vicinity of any events that do occur and security forces are likely to move to disperse the event, which could lead to clashes.

Those in Maroua are advised to monitor developments, avoid all demonstrations and gatherings as a precaution, anticipate associated disruptions, and heed all instructions issued by local authorities.
