Côte d'Ivoire: Supporters of opposition leader to rally at Abidjan airport upon his return December 22

Supporters of 2020 presidential candidate Guillaume Soro to meet him at Abidjan airport (ABJ) on his return December 22; heightened security presence and transportation disruptions expected

Former Prime Minister Guillaume Soro is due to return to Côte d'Ivoire on Sunday, December 22, ahead of the October 2020 presidential elections in which he is a candidate of the newly-formed Generations and Peoples Solidarity (GPS) party. His supporters plan to gather at the Felix-Houphouet-Boigny International Airport (ABJ) starting from 12.00 (local time) to welcome him back.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions, including flight delays, are expected at ABJ on Sunday.

Individuals traveling via ABJ, and in Abidjan more generally, are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests as a precaution, anticipate localized transportation disruptions and additional travel time, confirm flight status, and adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities.
