Chile National Forest Corporation issues red alert for part of Concepcion province on February 24; further spread of the fire possible

An ongoing forest fire in Concepcion province has prompted the Chile National Forest Corporation (CONAF) to issue a red alert in Santa Juana on Monday, February 24. The fire has affected 15 hectares (37 acres) of land as of Monday, for which seven brigades have been mobilized. Authorities have announced that the fire has continued to spread and is approaching residential areas.

Further spread of fires is possible over the coming days. A heightened security presence, road closures, and power outages are to be expected in the vicinity of any forest fires.

Individuals in the affected area are advised to monitor the situation and adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities (e.g. evacuation orders).
