Mauritania: Nationwide internet service disruption April 6

Authorities report nationwide internet service disruption as of April 6 due to breakdown; further disruptions possible in the coming days



According to official reports, as of Monday, April 6, the provision of broadband internet service has been interrupted nationwide since Friday, April 3. The interruption is due to a breakdown in the submarine fiber-optic cables.

As of Monday, the cause of the breakdown remains unknown.

Further disruptions are expected nationwide in the coming days.


Broadband access had previously been interrupted between February 27 and March 19 following damages on submarine fiber-optic cables caused by ships navigating nearby.


Individuals in Mauritania are advised to monitor developments to the situation and prepare for further internet disruptions.
