Afghanistan: Threat of imminent attack in Kabul continues December 18 /update 1

Local sources warn that threat of imminent attack in Kabul remains high December 18; heightened security presence expected over the coming days

As of Wednesday evening (local time), December 18, local sources have warned of a continuing threat that an attack targeting coalition and international community base locations in Kabul may be imminent. Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) have reportedly arrested two Haqqani Network (Taliban) militants in recent days, one of whom was an improvised explosive device (IED) manufacturer.

A heightened security presence is to be expected in Kabul over the coming days.

Individuals in Kabul are advised to avoid areas near government buildings and other national institutions, report suspicious objects and behavior to police, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.

The security environment in Afghanistan remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
