US: Wildfire forces evacuations in Napa County, California on September 27

Event

The Glass Fire that began early on Sunday, September 27, in Napa County, California has grown to over 2500 acres (1012 hectares) as of 21:00 (local time) and forced the evacuation of more than 2000 residents, primarily in the towns of St. Helena and Deer Park. As of Sunday evening, the fire is at zero percent containment and high winds are causing it to rapidly spread. Air tankers have been deployed in efforts to fight the fire due to the topography of the area which currently prohibits authorities to fight it from the ground. Several structures have reportedly been destroyed and the Napa County Sheriff's Office has closed the Silverado Trail and Deer Parkway due to their proximity to the fire.   

Further spread of the fire and additional evacuations are expected in the near term. An emergency response presence and localized transportation disruptions, namely road closures, should be anticipated in the affected areas.
