India: Storms hit northern and northwestern India March 4

Storms bring heavy rain, snow, and flooding to northern states March 4; lingering associated disruptions expected

On Wednesday, March 4, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued orange alerts for states and union territories throughout northern and northwest India warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, snow, and hail. The storm is expected to hit the northernmost territories during Wednesday night (local time) and continue until Saturday, March 7.

Damaging winds, heavy rain, hail, disruptive snowfall, and flooding are expected.

Individuals in India are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate lingering transportation and business disruptions, confirm flight reservations, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
