Alicante-Elche airport (ALC) to suspend operations January 19-20, in anticipation of storm; flight cancelations and delays expected

Alicante-Elche airport (ALC) will be closed from 13:00 (local time) on Sunday, January 19, until 13:00 on Monday, January 20, due to safety risks posed by stormy weather in the area. According to officials, the airport is particularly susceptible to the effects of the storm due to damage sustained in a fire on Wednesday, January 15. Flight disruptions at ALC, including cancelations, diversions, and delays are expected to continue through Monday.

A fire broke out on the roof of the terminal at ALC at around 14:30 on Wednesday, January 15, forcing 2000 people to evacuate the airport. Flight operations were suspended until 16:00, causing significant delays and diversions to Murica and Valencia.

Individuals flying via ALC are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate flight delays and cancelations, confirm flight reservations prior to leaving for the airport, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
