Syria: Security forces fire tear gas to disperse protesters in Idlib province April 14

Joint Turkish-Russian patrols on Idlib province's M4 highway deploy tear gas to disperse protesters on April 14; further clashes possible in the near term

Joint Turkish and Russian patrols along Idlib province's M4 highway deployed tear gas on Tuesday, April 14, to disperse protesters blocking the road. There have been no reports of any injuries following the incident.

Further clashes and protests are possible in Idlib province and surrounding areas in the near term.

To date, the Syrian conflict involves many parties, including the Syrian government, the Russian government, the Iranian government, the Turkish government, a US-led coalition, and numerous armed groups on the ground (including the Islamic State) with competing goals.

Due to extremely poor security conditions, Western governments generally advise against all travel to Syria, with some banning travel to the country. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to any travel to Syria.
