Bangladesh: Telecommunication services restored in border areas January 1 /update 1

Authorities restore mobile services operated by Bangladeshi carriers in border areas as of January 1; residual telecommunications disruptions expected

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has asked the Grameenphone, Robi, Banglalink, and Teletalk phone carriers to resume normal operation in border areas in the morning (local time) on Wednesday, January 1.

Residual telecommunication disruptions are likely over the coming hours and days.

Authorities ordered the shutdown of all telecommunication services along Bangladesh's border with India and Myanmar due to security concerns on December 31, affecting around 10,000 people across 32 districts.

Individuals in affected areas are advised to monitor developments to the situation, anticipate residual telecommunications disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
