Protest scheduled in Cuernavaca to call for improved security conditions on February 4; avoid all protests

Civil society groups have called for a protest in Cuernavaca (Morelos state) on Tuesday, February 4, to call on public safety officials for improved conditions in the city, as well as the state more generally. Participants will gather as of 10:00 (local time) at the San José El Calvario church and later march to the Government Palace.

Associated transportation disruptions and a heightened security presence are expected in the vicinity of the protest.

Context

High crime rates, including homicide and missing persons cases, have plagued Mexico in recent years, with record-high numbers in 2019. Cuernavaca is considered one of the most dangerous cities in Mexico.
