Bomb attack on rally supporting Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed wounds 29 people in Ambo (Oromia region) on February 23; similar attacks possible ahead of August elections



A "bomb attack" targeted a rally supporting Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Ambo (Oromia region) on Sunday, February 23, wounding 29 people. Police reportedly arrested six people in connection with the attack.

Similar assaults are possible in Ethiopia ahead of national elections scheduled on August 29. A heightened security presence and localized disruptions to transportation and business are to be expected around political rallies.  


Individuals in Ethiopia are advised to monitor developments, avoid protests and demonstrations, report suspicious objects and behavior, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
