France: Red weather warnings issued for two southern departments January 23

Meteo France issues red weather warnings for southern Pyrénées-Orientales and the Aude departments on January 23; heavy rain, flooding, and associated disruptions expected

Meteo France issued red weather warnings (the highest on a four-tier scale) at 06:00 (local time) on Thursday, January 23, for the Pyrénées-Orientales and the Aude departments. It forecasts between 3-5 cm (1-2 in) of rainfall per hour, as well as occasional thunderstorms to impact the southwestern departments until midday on Thursday. The meteorology agency has also issued an avalanche watch for the Pyrénées-Orientale.

Related transportation disruptions, hazardous driving conditions, and power outages are possible over the coming hours.
