Bosnia-Herzegovina: Further “Justice for David” protests possible in Banja Luka

“Justice for David” movement likely to organize further protests in Banja Luka in coming days; associated disruptions expected

Warning

Event

Further protests organized by the "Justice for David" movement are possible in Banja Luka in the coming days, along with additional supporting demonstrations in neighboring countries. Localized transportation disruptions, along with a heightened security presence, are expected. A related protest took place in Krajina Square in Banja Luka on Tuesday, December 26. Most of the associated demonstrations have passed off peacefully.

Context

Protests have been held since the unexplained death of a 21-year-old in Banja Luka in March 2018. Protesters are requesting that police forces treat this case as a murder, and more generally are denouncing a lack of transparency and perceived widespread corruption in police structures.

Advice

Individuals in Bosnia-Herzegovina are advised to monitor the development of the situation and avoid all protests as a precaution.
