More than 2000 climate activists participated in demonstrations at open-pit coal mines near Cottbus and Leipzig on Saturday, November 30. Activists gathered to denounce the use of coal to produce electricity.

Additional protests are possible throughout Germany over the near term. A heightened security presence and associated disruptions to transportation are likely around any protests.
