Fiji: Flooding kills three, injures one March 20

Storms and flooding kill three, injure one March 20; heavy rain, storm surge, and lingering associated disruptions expected

Authorities announced that storms and flooding on Viti Levu killed three people and injured another on Friday, March 20. The Fiji Meteorological Service expects sporadic thunderstorms to continue until Monday, March 30, possibly bringing additional heavy rain. Roads throughout the island were closed, and transportation disruptions are expected to continue.

Individuals in Fiji are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate lingering transportation and business disruptions, confirm flight reservations, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
