Dozens injured following clashes with police officers at a demonstration against a land reform bill in Kyiv on December 17; further protests possible

At least 19 people were injured in a protest in Kyiv on Thursday, December 17, in opposition to a bill that would allow the sale of farmland to foreign buyers as of October 2020. Several thousand people participated in the demonstration at the Verkhovna Rada building, and several hundred clashed with police. Approximately 2500 police officers were deployed to the area and arrested 26 protesters. A police chief reportedly confirmed the injury of 17 police officers in the clashes. Further protests and clashes between demonstrators and security forces are possible in the coming days and weeks.
