The National Aviator's Guild (NAG) labor union representing pilots at Jet Airways has postponed an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries until Monday, April 15. Union leaders reportedly deferred the work stoppage on Sunday, March 31, after the airline cleared wage payments that were due to be paid in December. Significant flight disruptions are expected in the near term if the strike proceeds as planned.

Context

Jet Airways pilots had initially threatened to launch an indefinite strike from April 1. Thousands of travelers have reportedly been stranded by the flight cancelations in recent weeks. As of mid-March, almost three-quarters of Jet Airways aircraft were grounded due to the delayed payments and most of its international and domestic services had been suspended. Jet Airways is currently suffering from more than USD 1 billion in debt.
