Security forces detained at least seven people in counter-terrorism operations which took place within Pohuwato district (Gorontalo province) on Saturday, November 28. The arrests reportedly occurred in Buntulia and Randangan sub-districts where police recovered firearms and knives. It has been speculated that the detainees may be members of the East Indonesian Mujahidin (MIT) who entered the province from Central Sulawesi; however, authorities have offered no further comment. Those arrested had been subject to a long-term police surveillance operation.
Further security operations are possible in Gorontalo province in the near term.
Those in Gorontalo province are advised to monitor developments, remain vigilant for militant activity, and report any suspicious behavior or activity to local authorities.
