Security forces detained at least seven people in counter-terrorism operations which took place within Pohuwato district (Gorontalo province) on Saturday, November 28. The arrests reportedly occurred in Buntulia and Randangan sub-districts where police recovered firearms and knives. It has been speculated that the detainees may be members of the East Indonesian Mujahidin (MIT) who entered the province from Central Sulawesi; however, authorities have offered no further comment. Those arrested had been subject to a long-term police surveillance operation.

Further security operations are possible in Gorontalo province in the near term.
