Event

Nationwide sit-in demonstrations are scheduled to take place in urban centers throughout Algeria on Wednesday, November 25. The demonstrations are being held to protest the government's alleged failure to provide suitable personal protective equipment (PPE) to teachers and other workers in the education sector during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The demonstrations are set to take place at educational facilities and directorates of education across the country, however, the timings have not yet been announced.

Further demonstrations are likely in the near term. A heightened security presence and localized transport disruptions should also be expected in the vicinity of the demonstrations.

Advice

Those in Algeria are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid protests or demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
