Mali: Opposition demonstration in Bamako December 8

Opposition parties call for demonstration in Bamako on December 8; avoid all protests

Opposition parties have called for a demonstration to be held in Bamako on Saturday, October 8. According to local sources, the demonstration is being organized to protest the government of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta. As of Tuesday, December 4, organizers have not announced the time and place of the demonstrations. Nevertheless, demonstrations are habitually organized at Monument de l'Indépendence and Place de la Liberté. A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to be expected near any demonstration site.

Travelers in Mali and specifically in Bamako are advised to closely monitor the situation and avoid all gatherings due to the risk of clashes between protesters and the security forces.

As a side note, the security environment in Mali remains complex, particularly in the north and central regions. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
