As of Thursday, April 2, firefighters, park rangers, volunteers, and other authorities are continuing attempts to contain a wildfire in Henri Pittier National Park in Aragua state. According to local media, the operation to control the fire has been ongoing since Monday, March 30. Strong winds are causing the fire to rapidly change direction, which is thwarting efforts to combat the blaze.
Further spread of the fire is expected in the coming days. A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions, namely road closures, should be anticipated in the affected areas.
Individuals in the affected area are advised to monitor developments to the situation, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities (e.g. evacuation notices, road closures), and exercise caution when travelling near the wildfire. Children and those with respiratory illness are advised to limit outdoor activity.
