Farmers and semi-nomadic cattle herders clashed violently in Kabbia department (Mayo-Kebbi Est region) between Monday, November 23, and Wednesday, November 25. Dozens of people were reportedly killed in fighting that began in Bele, but later spread to surrounding villages. The local authorities have imposed a curfew from 19:00 to 05:00 (local time) until at least Wednesday, December 2. Additional security personnel have been deployed to the area and dozens have been arrested following the clashes. The cause of the clashes was not immediately known.

A heightened security presence is expected in the area over the near term. Further clashes are possible.
