France: Police dismantle migrant camp in Paris November 23

French police dismantle migrant camp in Paris on November 23; further protests likely

Warning

Event

French police dismantled a migrant camp in central Paris on Monday, November 23, hours after it had been erected in protest against the dismantling of a camp in Saint Denis last week. Hundreds of migrants and supporters set up tents in Place de la Republique on Monday evening, demanding the opening of new centers to host the 3000 people affected by the dismantling of the Saint Denis camp. Riot police quickly arrived at the scene and removed the tents and dispersed the protesters.

Further protests over the issue are likely over the near term. A heightened security presence and associated disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of protest sites.

Advice

Those in Paris are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate travel disruption in the case of future demonstrations, and avoid any associated political gatherings.
