Nigeria: Election rally planned in Lagos February 9

All People's Congress party and President Buhari to stage political rally in Lagos on February 9; avoid all gatherings



The ruling All People's Congress (APC) party and President Muhammadu Buhari will be holding a large pollical rally at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in the Surulere district of Lagos (Lagos state) on Saturday, February 9. President Buhari will also visit the Oba of Lagos Palace and the Governor of Lagos state's Marina residence. A heightened security presence and significant transportation disruptions are to be expected near the rally and along the presidential motorcade route. Clashes between rally participants, opposition supporters, and security forces cannot be ruled out.


Presidential election in Nigeria is set to take place on February 16. The main presidential contenders are incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari from the All Progressive Congress (APC) and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, of the People's Democratic party (PDP).


Individuals in Lagos state are advised to monitor the situation and avoid all demonstrations due to the risk of violence.
