Flooding was reported in coastal and low-lying areas of Songkhla and Surat Thani provinces on Wednesday, December 2, following two days of heavy rainfall across southern areas of Thailand. Multiple small communities have been evacuated, particularly in districts of Songkhla with Muang, Singhanakhon, Rattaphum, Khuan Niang, and Hat Yai suffering the worst damage. The Marine and Coastal Resources Department of Surat Thani has been deployed to assist victims and has advised coastal residents to seek higher ground until flooding subsides.
Additional flooding is expected in the near term.
Those in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, including evacuation orders. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
