Two militants were killed after clashes broke out with security forces in the Dachan area of Kishtwar district (Jammu and Kashmir territory) on Friday, April 17. The encounter occurred during a joint police and military operation being undertaken in the area after security forces were informed of the presence of militants. Additional security forces have been deployed to the area to track down the remaining militants.

The fighting occurred in the same area where a Special Police Officer (SPO) was killed and another injured after they were attacked by militants armed with axes on Monday, April 13.

Similar clashes are possible in the area over the near term

Individuals in Jammu and Kashmir territory are advised to monitor developments, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.

Some foreign governments advise their citizens against travel to parts of Kashmir, notably including areas along the Line of Control (LoC), due to the significant risk of violence.
