New Caledonia: Cyclone Uesi likely to hit New Caledonia as Category 3 tropical storm February 11-12

Cyclone Uesi may reach a Category 3 tropical storm and pass over or near New Caledonia on February 11-12; heavy rain, storm surge, and lingering associated disruptions expected

On Monday, February 10, the Fiji Meteorological service forecast that Cyclone Uesi, currently a Category 2 tropical storm, will hit New Caledonia sometime early in the morning (local time) on Tuesday, February 11. The storm is predicted to continue in New Caledonia until Wednesday, February 12.

Reports indicate Uesi may reach Severe Category 3 status. Damaging winds, heavy rain, possible flooding, and dangerous seas are expected.

Individuals in New Caledonia are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate lingering transportation and business disruptions, confirm flight reservations, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
