Kenya: Militant Attack Dec. 2 - Garissa

Militant attack on police patrol base in Garissa County, Kenya, leaves one officer dead and a second wounded Dec. 2

At least one officer died and another was injured when militants opened fire on the Amuma police patrol base in Fafi, Garissa County, early Dec. 2. The gunmen also reportedly inflicted severe damage to the station's armory before fleeing the scene. No suspects have been apprehended, and no group has as yet claimed responsibility for the attack; however, authorities believe Al-Shabaab to be behind the incident.

Those in Garissa County are advised to monitor developments, avoid the area of the incident, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments. Due to the risk of Al-Shabaab attacks, many Western governments advise their citizens against travel to counties along Kenya's border with Somalia.
