University students and faculty will hold a strike and protests nationwide on Wednesday, October 10, in support of public education. Members of unions and social organizations are also expected to take part in the demonstrations. All 32 public universities in the country are expected to be closed throughout the day and private universities could also potentially be affected.
Street protests and associated traffic disruptions are to be anticipated in cities throughout Colombia, notably the capital Bogotá. Low-level violence (clashes, vandalism) cannot be ruled out.
Individuals in Colombia are advised to avoid all protests as a precaution and allow for additional time to reach their destinations.
