A significant brawl involving dozens of individuals erupted in Masanchi village (Jambyl province) overnight on Friday, February 7. During the initial incident, the crowd clashed with the police wounding two officers. Clashes then spread in several villages where protesters reportedly vandalized and set fire to buildings and cars. According to authorities, the situation is under control while eight people were killed, at least 40 injured, and 47 arrested following the incidents. It remains unclear what sparked the violence.

A heightened security presence is to be expected over the coming days. Further clashes between with security forces cannot be ruled out.
