Thailand: Heavy rains forecast for south November 11

Heavy rains forecast in southern Thailand November 11; flooding and transportation disruptions possible in affected areas

Warning

Event

Heavy rains are forecast in parts of southern Thailand on Sunday, November 11. On Saturday, November 10, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a weather warning forecasting heavy rains in the provinces of Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Ranong, Phang-nga, and Phuket over the coming hours. Thunderstorms may also affect parts of the North, Northeast, East, and Central regions (including Bangkok). Consequent flooding and transportation disruptions (including flight delays and cancelations) are possible in affected areas.

Advice

Individuals in affected areas are advised to stay abreast of local weather reports, adhere to instructions given by local authorities, anticipate transportation disruptions, and avoid flood-prone areas. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater and chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
