The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 5.5-magnitude earthquake around 61 km (38 mi) east-southeast of Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara) on Wednesday, January 15. The quake hit at around 14:55 (local time) at a depth of 10 km (6.2 mi). No tsunami warning was immediately issued. Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.
