Police disperse a student protest in Kinshasa January 6; further protests likely over the near term

Police used tear gas to disperse students protesting in front of the University of Kinshasa (UKIN) on Monday, January 6. Students were protesting rises in tuition fees. A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of the university. Further protests are likely over the coming days and clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.
