Belarus: Anti-Russia march held in Minsk December 8

Protesters march through Minsk on December 8 to oppose deepening relations with Russia; additional demonstrations possible over the coming days

Several hundred people marched through downtown Minsk on Sunday, December 8, for a second consecutive day to protest closer integration with Russia. Demonstrations broke out on Saturday, December 7, in response to a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

Additional demonstrations may be held in Minsk over the coming days. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are expected near all protest sites.

Individuals in Minsk are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
