Authorities announce the arrest of four suspected Islamic militants in North Rhine-Westphalia state; similar operations possible in the near term



On Wednesday, April 15, authorities announced that police arrested four suspected militants with links to the Islamic State (IS) in the cities of Essen and Düsseldorf (North Rhine-Westphalia state) while a fifth associated individual had previously been arrested in March. The five individuals, all Tajik nationals, are suspected of planning attacks on US military facilities within Germany according to local officials.

Similar security operations are possible in Germany over the near term.
