US: Fatalities confirmed following shooting at military base in Hawaii December 4 /update 3

Military officials confirm a sailor shot and killed two people before committing suicide at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam on December 4; investigation ongoing



Military officials at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam near Honolulu (Hawaii state) confirmed that a US sailor shot and killed two Department of Defense employees before committing suicide on Wednesday, December 4. A third victim was also wounded and is currently being treated at a nearby hospital. An investigation into the incident is ongoing and authorities have not yet released a motive for the shooting as of Wednesday afternoon (local time).

A heightened security presence is anticipated around the base over the coming hours.


Officials put the base on lockdown around 14:30 on Wednesday, closing the gates and blocking access to the base following reports of gunshots. The lockdown was lifted around 16:00 after the situation was contained.
