Anti-police brutality protests expected in Douala November 30 – December 4; avoid protest sites

Warning

Event

Anti-police brutality protests are expected to take place outside the Court of First Instance (lower court) building in Douala's Bonanjo district. The protests have been called by the Cameroon Bar Association in response to the arrest and detention of two lawyers as well as alleged police brutality against lawyers. Lawyers will not be participating in court matters nationwide over the days of the protest.

A heightened security presence and localized transport disruptions are expected in the vicinity of the demonstrations and clashes between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Those in Douala are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid protests or demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
