Serbia: Anti-government demonstration planned in Belgrade January 12 /update 4

Anti-government protesters to march in Belgrade on January 12; localized disruptions possible

Protesters are planning to hold an anti-government demonstration in Belgrade on Saturday, January 12. Thousands are expected to gather in the city center from 18:00 to 20:00 (local time), including a rally at Slavija Square. Further protests are possible in Belgrade and other cities  in the coming weeks.

Demonstrators in Serbia have been holding weekly protests on Saturdays since December 7 to denounce government corruption and call for the resignation of President Aleksander Vucic. The protests began following the assault of opposition leader Borko Stefanovic by suspected government forces or supporters.

Individuals in Serbia are advised to monitor the situation, avoid public demonstrations as a precaution, and anticipate localized transportation and business disruptions.
