Hundreds of residents demonstrate in Tashkent on August 6 to denounce alleged plans to merge parts of the city with surrounding region; avoid all large gatherings as a precaution

Some three hundred residents from three different neighbourhoods in the Uchtepa district of Tashkent gathered to protest on Thursday, August 6, against alleged government plans to merge parts of the region. The protests seemed to pass of peacefully and no clashes or arrests were immediately reported. 

A heightened security presence and associated disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of any protest site.
