India: 16 killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh state

According to the Uttar Pradesh authorities, at least 16 people lost their lifes over the past weekend in this northern state in rain-related incidents. On September 1, six died in Shahjahanpur, three in Sitapur, while six more people were killed by lightning. On September 2, emergency personnel are still trying to reach people stranded in Jhansi and Lalitpur due to recent heavy downpours.

On September 3, the meteorological department predicted more heavy rainfalls for eastern and western parts of the state over the next two days.
