Nurses and healthcare technicians will take part in a national strike action on Saturday, November 14, to protest working conditions, deteriorating health services, and low pay, among other grievances. Participants in Rabat will gather in front of the Ministry of Health's headquarters and demonstrators in urban centers countrywide will gather outside regional health directorates. The Movement of Nurses and Healthcare Technicians in Morocco (MITSAM) announced the action. MITSAM is also calling for the creation of a national federation for nurses and healthcare technicians. The action comes after Moroccan doctors conducted a 48-hour national strike on November 4-5.
A heightened security presence is to be expected the vicinity of rallies. Associated disruptions should be anticipated, including disruptions to medical services though reports suggest that emergency and intensive care services will not be affected.
Those in Morocco are advised to monitor developments to the situation, anticipate potential disruptions to the provision of medical services, avoid all public demonstrations as a precaution, and confirm medical appointments.
