Indonesia: Heightened security measures nationwide during holiday season

Indonesian security authorities on alert due to threat of attacks through holiday season; remain vigilant at all times

Indonesian authorities will deploy additional 160,000 security personnel throughout the country due to the risk of attacks during the holiday period and into January 2020. According to officials from the National Police Traffic Corps, military personnel will guard churches and tourist sites. This comes days after Indonesian National Police arrested six alleged militants believed to be members of an Islamic State (IS)-affiliated cell.

Heightened security measures should be expected over the coming several weeks.
