Warning

Event

Hundreds of protesters rallied in downtown Amman on Friday, January 17, to denounce the import of natural gas from Israel. Security forces reportedly prevented demonstrators from marching toward Nakheel Square. Jordan began importing natural gas from Israel earlier this month after supplies of Egyptian gas halted due to an attack on a pipeline in Sinai.

Further protests are possible in Amman over the coming days and weeks. A heightened security presence and transportation disruptions are to be expected near demonstration sites.

Advice

Individuals in Amman and across Jordan are advised to avoid all demonstrations as a precaution, anticipate transportation and business disruptions near protest sites, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
