Flooding following heavy rain kills six in Sake in Masisi territory (North Kivu province) on November 15; residual disruptions possible

Six people died and several houses and a primary school were destroyed in Sake in Masisi territory (North Kivu province) following heavy rains on Sunday, November 15. The rain led to the overflowing of the Tharabonze River and caused flooding in the Matcha and Kimoka areas of Sake. This was the second major flooding reported in the city recently after rains caused deluges in October.

Residual disruptions to transport, businesses, and utilities are possible in the near term following the flooding.

Those in North Kivu province are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate localized transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
