Germany: Shootings in Hanau leave at least eight people dead February 19

Multiple people were killed in two shootings in Hanau (Main-Kinzig-Kreis district) on the night of February 19; police are currently searching for the suspected shooters



Police in Hanau (Main-Kinzig-Kreis district) are searching for the suspected gunman or gunmen involved in two shootings in the city on the night (local time) of Wednesday, February 19. According to initial reports, the first incident occurred at a bar in downtown Hanau, then the perpetrators drove to another bar in the Kesselstadt neighborhood and opened fire on another group of individuals. At least eight people were killed and another five wounded in the shootings. A police investigation is ongoing into the incident and details are still emerging.

A heightened police presence and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated around both shooting sites and more generally throughout Hanau.
