Farming organizations to continue railway blockades in Punjab state November 18

Farmers’ organizations announced the continuation of railway blockade in Punjab state on November 18; anticipate disruptions

Warning

Event

A group of 30 farmers' organizations announced on Wednesday, November 18, that they would continue their blockade of passenger trains in opposition to recent agricultural legislation. A spokesperson for the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Dakaunda) stated that they would only allow trains carrying goods to continue to travel through the state. Protesters remain present at 25 stations across Punjab. Train services have been suspended in Punjab since October 3 when the farmers began their blockade and goods trains were only permitted through the blockade following a shortage in fertilizers.

Protests associated with the action are possible. Continued travel disruptions should be anticipated while the blockade is in force.

Advice

Those in Punjab state are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate localized disruptions, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
