Chad: French military launches airstrikes in northern Chad Feb. 3

French military launches airstrikes against rebel convoy in northern Chad on February 3

At approximately 18:00 (local time) on Sunday, February 3, the French Air Force launched airstrikes against a rebel convoy between Tibesti and Ennedi. According to a military spokesperson, the airstrikes targeted a 40-vehicle convoy belonging to the Union des forces de la résistance (UFR) rebel group. Reports indicate the convoy had entered Chad from neighboring Libya. Further airstrikes, as well as clashes between Chadian security forces and militants, are possible in northern Chad in the near term.

Individuals in Chad are advised to monitor the situation, refrain from unnecessary travel to the border regions neighboring Sudan and Libya, and remain vigilant for militant activity.
