Costa Rica: Healthcare workers extend nationwide strike for 72 hours August 7-10 /update 1

The healthcare sector continues to demand improved conditions for health services and to protest the government's aim to privatize health services.

Disruptions to healthcare services should be expected throughout the strike period. Protests are possible around health centers, hospitals, and government offices. Associated transportation disruptions and a heightened security presence should be expected in the vicinity of any protest.  

Context

Costa Rican healthcare staff began their nationwide strike over 48 hours on August 5 through August 7. Staff previously stated that a minimum of key services, including emergency room, pharmaceutical, and laboratory services, will be guaranteed during the strike.
