The US Embassy in Kampala warned citizens of a reported increase in criminal activity in Uganda. These activities mostly include robberies, burglaries, assaults, pick-pocketing, residential break-ins, and mainly target foreigners, especially expatriates and Westerners. According to US authorities, these attacks can be associated with the approach of the Christmas holidays.

Uganda's security situation has greatly improved in the past years, though petty and violent crime remains a threat, especially for foreigners and expatriates.

Individuals in Uganda are advised to remain vigilant in all circumstances, especially in crowded areas and during holiday events, adhere to instructions and advice issued by local authorities and their home governments, and pay close attention to personal belongings.
